The Highgate Hotel is a wonderful residence with over 500 years of character and history, offering ten en-suite rooms. It was built for the first Doctor in Kendal, the eminent James Ainslie. Whilst we aim to meet the needs of all our guests the age and design of the building might have access problems for people with limited mobility. At the front of the Hotel there are 3 steps up to the door with railings on both sides and four steps at the rear door. All our guest rooms are on the first or second floor, but all the staircases are original with wide steps and low treads. Rooms are not suitable for wheelchairs
We are located on the main high street. The road can be busy mainly at rush hour but is generally quiet through the night. All rooms at the front have original wooded window shutters. The nearest shops are 1 minutes walk away (110metres)
For those travelling by car we offer a large secure free car park (illuminated at night), space for 10 cars which is accessed via Brewery Arts Centre car park.
Kendal Bus Station is 10 minutes walk away with local and national services. The nearest bus stop is 40 metres away.
Kendal has 2 local railway stations: Kendal is 20 minutes walk away. Oxenholme is approximately 1 ½ miles away and is a main station with trains running north and south. There are taxis available which we are happy to arrange.
